Pregnancy Support

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.
— Maya Angelou

Acupuncture during pregnancy is an ideal form of treatment as it offers women all natural, drug-free support and patient centered care. Not only is acupuncture effective at treating and preventing a multitude of problems that can arise during pregnancy and childbirth, but it also supports women to be as healthy, grounded and strong as possible as they support the new life within them.

Some of the pregnancy related conditions that I safely treat include:

  • Nausea
  • Heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Pain
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Itching
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Breech presentations
  • Habitual miscarriage
  • Pregnancy-induced hypertension

Acupuncture for Labor Preparation:

Pre-labor acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment that can help prepare a woman both physically and mentally for the task of active labor. Ideally, treatment should commence at week 35 and be continued weekly until labor. Acupuncture for labor preparation is proven to reduce the length of labor, prevent overdue births, and accelerate cervical ripening and dilation. If travelling during this time proves to be too challenging, arrangements can be made for home visits.

• Enhance endorphin production (our bodies' natural pain relief mechanism)
• Relieve anxiety and stress
• Increase physical stamina
• Prepare the cervix
(to relax and open with ease)
• Strengthen the pelvic floor

Postnatal Support:

The postnatal period refers to the six weeks directly following childbirth.  The combination of labor exhaustion, blood loss and hormonal fluctuations has an extreme effect on new mothers that require nurturing and care in order to ensure a full recovery. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is important during this time to restore adequate hormone levels, nourish core energy and bring the body and mind into balance by addressing the following:

• Postpartum Depression
• Birth & C-Section Recovery
• Lactation Challenges
• After Pains
• Persistent Uterine Bleeding
